Developers, Technologists, Data Crunchers, this is a great opportunity for you to join a cadre of doers. In partnership with The Knight Foundation and Mozilla, Ushahidi is excited to be one of the news partners for the 2014 Fellowship. What this means is that if you are interested in all things data, journalism and have the coding chops this is a great opportunity for you to work with us. Over the years, Ushahidi has worked with The Knight Foundation to share the best practices around Crowdsourcing, which resulted in toolkits and numerous blogposts as we continued to grow. We now have a base in Nairobi (although we are fundamentally virtual) so the fellowship will give you a chance to come work with us virtually and in real life in Nairobi. There are many options. As the use of the Ushahidi platform, both in downloadable form and Crowdmap grow, so do the possibilities for data science to help gain insight from the data gathered. There is also a worldwide community to tap into and different topics, from Crisis, Elections, Environmental monitoring and City logistics to choose from. We hope to work with people who not only see the importance of giving voice to wider populations and emerging journalistic models, but also have a great civic attitude. Why? Ushahidi (Like Mozilla) is all about building cool things that have impact and reach. Our global community is an exciting one to be a part of. As Dan Sinker Put it...
The Knight-Mozilla Fellowships offer visionary coders, data geeks, civic hackers, engineers, and technologists the opportunity of a lifetime: 10 months to write open-source code with impact, to travel the world, to engage in dynamic communities, and to create tools and projects that help the world to learn more about itself. This is an exciting moment in journalism, and you can be right at the center of it.
