Ushahidi 3, Crowdmap Classic and migrations

When can I migrate to Ushahidi 3?

Soon, hopefully we will start testing migrations in early 2016. We've been a little quiet about migrations from Ushahidi 2 to 3 so far, but we've been talking it through internally a lot. We want to get migrations out as soon as we can.. but its also a big undertaking, and something we feel we absolutely have to get right.

Whats the hold up?

First we need to make sure Ushahidi 3 has all the features of Ushahidi 2. Or at least has somewhere to store all the data. While Ushahidi 3 is complete in itself, it intentionally doesn't try to replicate Ushahidi 2. We're still going through a thorough comparison to make sure we're clear what differs and where thats a problem or not.

Once we've Ushahidi 3 is up to speed, we want to test migrations exhaustively.

Whats going to happen to Crowdmap Classic?

Right now: Nothing! Nothing is changing right now. We understand a lot of people still rely on Crowdmap Classic to run their Ushahidi 2 deployments. We don't take that lightly. Even once we have a migration path we won't force you to migrate without a lot of warning. But we hope to have a migration path for those that want to move to Ushahidi 3 in 2016.
